Dr. Zap’s real name is Marc Sabourin, a real world scientist dedicated to saving energy. Marc first graduated from chemical engineering in 1985 and later earned his Masters and Doctorate Degrees. During his early years in industry Marc worked as a process engineer specializing in energy-intensive processes for the production of pulp for newsprint and magazines. One day it dawned on Marc just how important energy conservation is to our world; he decided to focus his career on saving energy and has never looked back. Soon after, Marc was developing energy-efficient technologies that were being installed around the world. Dr. Sabourin’s patented processes save about a billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, unparalleled in the industry. The power savings from his processes help reduce millions of tons of greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere. A little zany by nature and interested in the future of today’s generation, Marc began teaching kids about energy using entertainment as a hobby. This endeavor grew on him, so much so he eventually founded Youth Energy Initiative, a company dedicated to help the public learn more about energy and how to conserve it. A team of talented artists, producers, writers and directors sharing Marc’s interest in energy stewardship came on board, and the Youth Energy Initiative was officially launched. As an added twist Marc plays the role of Dr. Zap, mentor to a group of energy-saving cartoon superheroes known as the Galactic Energy Force. This approach adds a dimension of credibility to what Youth Energy Initiative is all about, and that is ACTION.
